Near CallanderThis holiday lets you explore some of Scotland's most dramatic scenery at your leisure. You could just walk between the four overnight stops and rest on the other days. Alternatively, on the extra days you could go on circular walks for which Make Tracks provides detailed written guides, or even climb a Munro or two. These are mountains in Scotland over 3000 feet (910 metres), and there are several here which can be climbed fairly easily if you are sufficiently fit and experienced and the weather is suitable.

Highland Track AccommodationThe week starts at Callander, easily reached by car or coach from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and ideal for a stay of 2 nights as there are some lovely walks by fast flowing rivers, or high on the crags above the town, giving you a flavour of what's to come in the rest of the week. Leaving Callander you walk (8 miles) by the side of Loch Venacher, at the foot of the impressive Ben Ledi, before reaching the tiny hamlet of Brig o' Turk.

After spending the third night here, you have a choice of two routes - over a mountain pass (8 miles), or for the fit and experienced a walk that takes in two mountain tops (10 miles) to the romantic village of Balquhidder, with its picturesque church and the grave of one of the Highlands' great heroes, rob Roy McGregor. Night 4 and 5 are spent here, with the chance to relax by the side of Loch Voil or climb nearby moutains such as Stob Binnein or Beinh an t-Sidhein.

KillinThe next day (10 miles) takes you over another pass much used by cattle thieves, down past somesparkling waterfalls and through woodland to Killin, where the Falls of Dochart tumble into Loch Tay. Two nights here give you a chance to rest, or walk on the Ptarmigan Ridge, from which you can see all the way to Ben Nevis on a clear day. There is a regular coach service from Killin to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
