Malts, Hops and Hikes
- The Speyside Way + Whisky

Speyside is a great place for a break for your club, corporate group, family, or a bunch of friends. The Spey river system supplies the crystal clear water for the world's best malt whisky; and it is also the spine of one of Scotland's great long distance footpaths, the Speyside Way. Your group can enjoy all of this without the hassle of arranging all the details yourself. At Make Tracks, we have been helping people enjoy the area for 15 years now. Let us help you discover the best walks and the best whisky in the area.

We suggest that you contact us to let us know a few details about your group. Then we can customise an itinerary to suit you exactly. To help, here are a few things that you could include in your trip.

  • Coach or minibus travel from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen
  • Full Board (with packed lunch) at a combination of local Hotels at Fochabers, Craigellachie, Ballindalloch and Grantown
  • Accomodation and breakfast only at B&Bs as above
  • Standard or Connoiseurs' Tours of any or all of these world famous distilleries (all with complimentary tastings):-
    • Glenfiddich
    • Glenlivet
    • Glen Grant
    • The MacAllan
    • Cragganmore

  • Tour of the Craigellachie Cooperage (where they make the whisky barrels)
  • Tour of Tomintoul Brewery (at the highest village in the Scottish highlands)
  • Self-guided or guided walking on selected sections of the Speyside Way and other local walks
  • Walk the Tomintoul Spur from Glenlivet Distillery to Tomintoul.
  • Guided walking onto the summits of the Cairngorms.
  • Relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere at comfy local inns and Hotels in the evenings
Here are a couple of sample itineraries with prices (from either end of the price range) to give you an idea of the type of break we can arrange for you.
Sample Itinerary 1 - (4 Nights for 8 people)
Day 1
Arrival
Arrive Inverness or Aberdeen (air or rail). Transfer by minibus to a small Hotel or comfortable B&Bs in Craigellachie, in the heart of Speyside. Overnight Craigellachie.

Day 2
Dufftown and Glenfiddich

After a traditional Scottish breakfast, a short walk to the cooperage in Craigellachie. See traditional barrel making in practice at this 5 star attraction. Then walk the Dufftown Spur (about 6 miles) by the bank of the River Fiddich. You should arrive in time for lunch at Dufftown. In the afternoon, visit the Glenfiddich Distillery - the tour should take you about an hour and a half. You'll have the chance to sample some of the produce before we collect you and take you back to your accommodation in Craigellachie. Overnight Craigellachie.
Day 3
Craigellachie to Cragganmore
Leave after breakfast on a gentle walk along the banks of the Spey (about 12 miles). Time for a picnic lunch by the river before continuing your walk along the river. At Cragganmore Distillery, learn how great and distinctive whisky can be made at a smaller scale. We will collect you from Cragganmore and take you back to your accommodation in Craigellachie. Overnight Craigellachie.
Day 4
Glenlivet to Tomintoul
Transfer by minibus to the Glenlivet Distillery in time for a morning tour of what is probably the best known distillery in the world. Save any purchases for collection, because you then walk part of the stiff uphill climb over Carn Daimh (1,800 feet) on the Tomintoul Spur to Tomintoul, the highest village in Scotland. There you can visit the Tomintoul brewery (they make great beer in this part of the world too), before we collect you and take you back to Craigellachie. Overnight Craigellachie.
