"We wanted to comment on our Rob Roy Ramble (Trossachs Trundle) experience once home safely. To put it simply: it was marvellous!

A great choreography of walks, scenery, B+Bs, and cycling. And best of all: the weather we had. I am sure we will visit Scotland again.

Thanks for this wonderful experience!"

Trossachs Trundle

A 4 Night Walking / Cycling Break in the Scottish Highlands

This short break combines two days walking and one day cycling in the Trossachs and Breadalbane, one of the loveliest parts of the highlands, but so easy to get to from either Glasgow or Edinburgh. Starting and finishing at Callander, the first two days take you over mountain passes frequented by the highland legend and cattle chief, Rob Roy McGregor, passing by 3 splendid freshwater lochs. Then you have a day making your way back to your starting point by mountain bike on good off-road cycle tracks through glens and alongside lochs and fast flowing rivers.

A perfect way to enjoy a few days in the peace and tranquility of the Scottish Highlands. As with all of our holidays and short breaks, accommodation is in good quality Bed and Breakfasts or small Hotels. Prices include, accommodation, written maps and guides, fitted mountain bikes, and door to door luggage transfer.

Trossachs Trundle - Suggested Itinerary (4 Nights)
Day 1 Arrive Callander One hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow by car (or we can arrange transfers from Stirling or the airports or advise on appropriate public transport).
Day 2 Brig o' Turk to Balquhidder (11m, 18k) A short transfer by car, then a walk through Glen Finglas and over a pass to Glen Buckie, overlooked by the distinctive Ben Ledi. Arrive at Balquhidder, once the home of Rob Roy McGregor, and now his burial place by the side of Loch Voil
Day 3 Balquhidder to Killin (13m, 20k) Over Kirkton Glen by another mountain pass by a beautiful little lochan (ideal for a picnic), then down into Glen Dochart and through woodland to Killin on the edge of Loch Tay
Day 4

Killin to Callander on bikes (25m, 40k)

Your mountain bike (provided by Mounter Bikes) will be ready for you to leave in the morning for a 40 kilometre off-road cycle ridethrough wonderful mountain scenery back to Callander. You can also go off route on some quiet country lanes to explore the banks of Loch Earn or Loch Voil
Day 5 Depart Callander

Getting There

The start and finish points for the Trossachs Trundle is Callander. The nearest big town is Stirling, on the main rail network, and only 30 minutes by train or bus from Glasgow or Edinburgh. At Stirling, the bus stance is right next to the railway station. From here, Firstbus service no. 59 takes about 45 minutes to reach Callander (see timetable). There are additional buses, some of which run on Sundays, and quite late daily (see the Travelline Scotland web site and use the journey planner).
