The Cateran Trail

Overview

The Cateran Trail is a great new route, giving you the chance to explore a relatively unspoiled part of the Scottish highlands. The route is inspired by the deeds of the Caterans, cattle thieves who were once active in the area, robbing lowland settlements and returning by the same routes that you can now walk in comfort with Make Tracks.

You start and finish at Blairgowrie, easily accessible from the mainline railway stations at Perth, Dundee and Pitlochry. The start and finish of the route are pleasant farmland and riverside walking, but the middle few days take you into another world of remote glens and mountains. Its easy to see why the caterans felt safe from capture in this beatiful but isolated landscape.

Just wanted to thank you for an amazing holiday a couple of weeks back walking the Cateran Trail. All the accommodation was first class, amazing rooms, fantastic food and lovely people. We had great fun even though the weather wasn’t too great..... Tigh na Leigh in Alyth - superb! not forgetting the two wonderful farm houses along the way with some of the nicest people we have ever met. The blisters are long forgotten and we have some great memories. Thanks again I will definitely recommend and use you again.
